Aeromovel as a Distinct Transit Mode – ABIFER

The document “Modal Aeromovel”, issued by the Brazilian Railway Industry Association (ABIFER), officially recognizes the Aeromovel System as a unique and non-conventional mode of automated urban transit. It highlights that Aeromovel does not fall into traditional categories such as LRV, metro, train, or BRT, but rather forms a subcategory within AGT (Automated Guideway Transit), standing out for its exclusive pneumatic propulsion technology applied to steel-wheel vehicles on rails.

The report outlines the technical and operational features that make the system one of a kind: lightweight structures, modular design, low environmental impact, high reliability, and the versatility to operate both as an APM (Automated People Mover) in areas of concentrated demand and as a medium-capacity AGT in urban corridors. It also emphasizes that Aeromovel is a 100% Brazilian, patented technology, with no commercial equivalent in continuous operation worldwide.

Furthermore, the document underscores Aeromovel’s compliance with international standards (ASCE 21 and EN 50126/50128/50129 – RAMS), ensuring high levels of safety and operational availability. The system is compared to leading engineering solutions in the railway, aeronautical, and nautical industries, for its innovative integration of structural and propulsion concepts.

Finally, ABIFER concludes that Aeromovel represents an exclusive, scalable, and reliable transit mode, with strong potential for public mobility policies, particularly in urban and airport environments. The document reaffirms Aeromovel’s status as a special and sui generis category, distinct from all other rail-based transit systems in existence.
